- Record a display or a window. On a Mac you can also drag an area: free, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3 or 1:1.
- Up to three pictures in one take, each saved to its own file. On Windows you add displays and windows only.
- Picture, voice, system sound and camera stay separate. Recording works offline once you are signed in.
- You need 5 GB free to start, and it stops and saves at 500 MB free.

- Select words in the script and press Delete. The preview and the timeline follow, and every cut can be restored.
- Your original media is never changed. Editing by text works offline once the transcript exists.
- Filler words, long pauses and repeated takes are found on your computer, with no AI and no cost.

Moving from ScreenPal to Cutscript
- In version 3.4.0 or later, find the ScreenPal folder in Home on a Mac, or in your user profile on Windows.
- Export what you keep as MP4. Cutscript opens MP4, MOV, WebM and AVI, not FLV, .screenpal or .somrec files.
- Install Cutscript, sign in with a free account, then choose File › New Project… and pick each video.
- Transcribe: add a key in Settings › AI › Providers, or Whisper in Settings › Local models on Apple silicon.
- Add zooms by hand. Imported video has no click data: automatic zooms need a Cutscript take recorded on a Mac.
- Post the exported file where viewers are. Keep ScreenPal for hosted links, comments, quizzes and analytics.

Should I use Cutscript or ScreenPal?
Use ScreenPal if people watch through a link and you want quizzes, comments or viewer data, or a school or team buys for many users. Use Cutscript to edit on a multitrack timeline and post the file yourself. They overlap, so you can use both.
Can Cutscript run a class or a team like ScreenPal?
No. Cutscript has no hosting, quizzes, LMS integrations, SSO or team billing, and Pro covers one computer at a time. ScreenPal's Team Education is $3 per user a month and Team Business is $8, both paid annually.
Is Cutscript a free alternative to ScreenPal?

Does Cutscript work on a phone, a Chromebook or Linux?
No. Cutscript runs on Mac (Apple silicon or Intel, macOS 14 or later; recording needs macOS 15) and 64-bit Windows from the Microsoft Store. Linux is in testing. ScreenPal has phone apps, Chromebook and an online recorder, but no Linux desktop app.
Do I have to pay for AI in Cutscript?
Pro includes no AI credits, so cloud steps are billed by the provider you pick. ScreenPal builds AI into Max and Team. Cutscript's AI runs on your ChatGPT or Claude plan (Claude on a Mac), your keys or local models. A transcript needs a key, or Whisper on an Apple silicon Mac.
