Install Cutscript
Download the app, move it to Applications and open it for the first time.
Cutscript comes as a disk image (a .dmg file). You open it, drag the app into Applications and open it. The app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS can check it before it runs.
Before you start, check System requirements. You need a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later.
Install the app
- Go to cutscript.dev/download and choose Download for Mac. The page opens a thanks page, and the file starts downloading by itself. It is named
Cutscript-<version>-arm64.dmg. Thearm64part means it is for Apple silicon. - Open the file from your Downloads folder. A window shows the Cutscript app next to a shortcut to Applications.
- Drag Cutscript onto the Applications shortcut.
- Eject the disk image, then open Cutscript from Applications.
- The first time, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Choose Open. macOS asks this once.
Open Cutscript from Applications, not from the disk image. The disk image is only the installer.
When Cutscript opens for the first time, it shows a Get set up sheet. It is optional. See Get set up and permissions.
Check the download (optional)
Two checks in Terminal confirm you have the file we published and that Apple has notarized the app.
Compare the file's checksum with the one on the download page, next to the file name:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Cutscript-<version>-arm64.dmgAfter you install, ask macOS to assess the app. The output should end with "source=Notarized Developer ID":
spctl -a -vv /Applications/Cutscript.appIf macOS will not open it
- Download the file again from cutscript.dev/download. A partial or altered download can fail the check.
- Run the two checks above. If the checksum does not match, do not open the file.
More fixes are in Troubleshooting.
Remove Cutscript
- Quit Cutscript.
- Drag Cutscript from Applications to the Trash.
Removing the app does not remove your projects, settings or saved keys. They stay in ~/Library/Application Support/Cutscript. To delete them too, first copy out anything you want to keep, then delete that folder.
Warning: The Cutscript folder holds your projects, recordings and encrypted API keys. Deleting it cannot be undone from inside Cutscript. Settings › About shows its exact location under App data folder.
macOS may also keep Cutscript's entries in System Settings › Privacy & Security. You can remove them there.
