System requirements
The Mac, the macOS version, the disk space and the accounts Cutscript needs.
Cutscript runs on Macs with Apple silicon. You can edit on macOS 14 or later, and recording the screen needs macOS 15 or later.
What your Mac needs

To check your chip, choose Apple menu › About This Mac and read the Chip line. It says Apple followed by the chip name on an Apple silicon Mac.
Windows and Linux versions are not available yet.
Disk space while you record
Cutscript refuses to start a recording with less than 5 GB free. If space drops below 2 GB during a recording, it warns you and keeps going. Below 500 MB it stops and saves what it has. You can point recordings at another drive in Settings › Recording.
What is built in
Cutscript carries what it needs: the video engine (ffmpeg), the screen recorder, tracking and the graphics engine. You do not install ffmpeg, Node.js or anything else. Get set up shows each part and its status.
The one optional download is the link downloader, about 95 MB, which brings in videos from links. Cutscript fetches it only when you set it up, or when you bring in your first link.
Accounts for AI features
You need no account to record, edit on the timeline, add zooms and cursor effects, or export. A transcript is different. Editing by text and captions need one, and transcription runs on a cloud provider you connect.

A ChatGPT plan or a Claude plan cannot transcribe audio or make pictures. See Connect an AI account.
Optional hardware and software
- Microphone and camera. Built-in or connected. Both are optional.
- iPhone or iPad. Device mode records a cabled iPhone or iPad. It is experimental and off until you turn on Experimental recording modes in Settings › Recording.
- Claude Code. Only if you want to use your Claude plan. You install it from Anthropic, and Cutscript runs your own copy.
- macOS 15 for one voice option. In Enhance voice, High quality voice needs macOS 15 or later. The standard Voice option works on macOS 14.
