Known limitations

What Cutscript does not do yet, what is still being tested, and the limits of its AI and download features.

Updated 3 min read

Cutscript is a beta. This page lists what does not work yet, what is experimental, and where the edges are. The same list of known limitations appears in the changelog, and it is updated with each release.

Where it runs

  • Cutscript runs on Macs with Apple silicon only. Intel Macs, Windows and Linux are not supported yet. A Windows version is being prepared and is not ready to download.
  • It opens on macOS 14 or later, but recording needs macOS 15 or later.
  • Cutscript does not update itself. You download each new version. See Update Cutscript.

Recording

  • Recording with some microphones and cameras is still being checked on real hardware.
  • Device mode (a cabled iPhone or iPad) and Choose apps (sound from one app) are experimental. They are off until you turn on Experimental recording modes in Settings › Recording, and they are built but not yet checked on real hardware.
  • Click sounds, click zooms and click effects need the click tracking permission. Without it, a recording has no click data. Position tracking does not need it.
  • The stop shortcut ⌃ ⌥ ⌘ R cannot be changed yet.

Transcripts and AI

  • There is no on-device transcription. A transcript comes from ElevenLabs, fal.ai or OpenRouter, so it needs an internet connection and your account. Editing by text and captions need a transcript.
  • A ChatGPT plan or a Claude plan covers the AI director's text only. It cannot transcribe audio or make pictures.
  • AI pictures are off until you choose an image model in Settings › AI › Images. Music on ElevenLabs needs a paid ElevenLabs plan.
  • The AI agent does not record, export or run code.
  • The AI reads up to eight attached files at a time. For a PDF, it reads the text of the first 60 pages. A scanned PDF is read with OCR only after you click and see the price.
  • The spending limits in Settings › AI › AI director count the AI director's OpenRouter and fal.ai spending. They do not count plan requests, transcription, voiceover, music or sound effects. Those are charged by their provider.
  • Prices come from the providers. Cutscript shows them but does not set them.

Editing and export

  • Exported video has no alpha channel. Transparent graphics are flattened into the picture.
  • When a project uses effects such as zooms, speed changes, annotations, the cursor overlay, the webcam bubble, layouts or frame padding, only MP4 H.264 is offered for video export. The other formats are greyed out with the reason.
  • Chroma key removes one solid colour. It does not find people in the picture.
  • Blur and pixelate are applied when you export. Your original recording file is not changed, so the footage underneath is still in it. If you share a project package that includes media, or a project folder, the original footage goes with it.

Bringing media in

  • Download from link cannot fetch private videos, videos that need a signed-in account, age-restricted or members-only videos, copy-protected (DRM) videos, or live streams that have not ended. Cutscript does not sign in to sites or use cookies. Download only videos you have the right to use.
  • Some sites change often, and an old downloader stops working. Cutscript checks for a newer one once a week.
  • Check the licence and trademark terms of an online logo or icon before you publish it.
