Add an OpenAI API key for OpenAI's voices in voiceovers and dubbing, with a tone line on GPT-4o mini TTS.
OpenAI gives Cutscript 13 voices for voiceover and line-by-line dubbing. GPT-4o mini TTS also takes a tone line, such as "warm and upbeat, a little faster".
Before you start
- An API key from platform.openai.com, with credit on the account. Your ChatGPT plan is separate: it does not cover the API, and the key does not use the plan.
- An internet connection.
- OpenAI here is a voice provider only. It does not transcribe, make pictures or run the AI director in Cutscript.
Add the key
- Press
⌘ ,, choose AI, then Providers, and find the OpenAI card. - Press Get a key. OpenAI's keys page opens in your browser.
- Create a key and copy it. Treat it like a password.
- Paste it into the field that says "Paste your OpenAI API key", then press Save.
Cutscript checks the key with one free read of OpenAI's model list.

The voices are tuned for English and speak 57 languages. OpenAI retires these speech models on 6 January 2027.
